Dear Mother & Dad,
Suprise! Suprise! Look where I am. It was
a long hard trip but I made it. I guess that we
took advantage of every means of conveyance to get
here. Incidentally, I am now eligible for the 40 + 8 club
when I go home, having ridden in one of those 40 + 8
railroad wagons.
Boy! Am I glad I took as much French as I did
in school. It certainly helps here. I was astounded to
learn that the people here understand me, and I can
actually understand them. I have become a sort of official
interperter for the gang. One old French man brought me
to his house to get warm. He introduced me to his wife
and daughter and I spent about three quarters of an hour
answering questions about America. They were very good to
me.
Well that is about all for now. I just wanted to
let you know where I was and that I am all right.
In fact, I an doing fine. I will write again when
I have more time.
Your Loving Son
