Dear Mother & Dad:
I received a pleasant suprise last
night. I was awarded the Combat Infantry
Badge, "for exemplary conduct in action
against the enemy." That is what it
said on the orders. Translated, it
simply means that I didn't run.
What really is important about it is
that it means $10 extra per month.
That will come in real handy. I was
given a copy of the orders and I am
sending them along with this letter
for you to save for me.
I was payed yesterday. I sent
the whole thing home. It amounted to
something like $100. Now here is what
I want you to do. That hundred
dollars plus the bonds that I have
should be enough to get a house, and
that is what I want done
immediately. I want you to get out
of that damn apartment, get the
furniture out of storage and set up
shop again. I want to have something
besides an apartment to come home
to. I hope that I receive word from
you soon that this has been done. If
there is any money left over put it
in the bank for me. I will need it
for my education.
Well that takes care of it for now.
Your Loving Son
