Dear Mother & Dad:
Well, there is not much more to report.
The war still goes on as usual.
This continent of Europe is really a
sad disappointment. It is filthy, dirty and old
fashioned. I believe that a man's wealth here
is measured by the size of the pile of horse
manure he has in the front yard. I have
noticed that when the civilians move back to
a town that has been bombed and shelled,
the first thing they do is straighten up
the pile of horse manure. Their houses
may be full of holes and their belongings
scattered all over town, but the horse manure
comes first. The houses here are built with the
kitchen adjacent to the cow barn. There is
usually a door between. The [shed?] is such that
no human being could stand. However, these people
don't seem to mind it at all. What a place!
Well, that's all for now, except for my
usual request for a package with some [candy?]
and cookies, etc. Give my regards to everyone.
Your Loving Son
